Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction can be described as an inability of a male to get a firm erection. Some of the tests you may be suggested include your doctor’s examination, lab tests (blood count, lipid profile and others) and monitoring nocturnal erections, as well as psychological examination. The main aim of monitoring is to establish whether the patient experiences nocturnal involuntary erections. If the patient has those erections this means the condition is most likely caused by psychological rather than physical reasons. Psychological examination usually involves the patient being asked a series of questions to determine whether there are any expectations during sex that may prevent him from having an orgasm and maintain an erection. Some more serious tests that may be done include duplex ultrasound (used to evaluate blood flow and the condition of erectile tissue and measure penile blood pressure), penile nerves function tests (used to establish whether the penis is sensitive enough), penile biothesiometry (use of electromagnetic vibration to evaluate nerve function and sensitivity) and a number of others. Only after the cause of your erectile dysfunction has been established you may be able to safely take Viagra, Levitra or Cialis.
